Do most of you fill the pores, for b/s, of BRW, Macassar Eb. and similar woods. I know some do not. Why or why not do you fill the pores. Pkease post pictures of finih w/o pore fill. Thanks again, |

If not then I would use a a lacquer satin finish or a varnished satin finish. High gloss will look like the moon with pore divots as the finish shrinks back into the pores. Many people, myself included love the look of wood in a more natural state. But if a high gloss finish is used then I believe you need to fill the pores to prevent the finish from shrinking back into the pores. |

Any wood with pores needs to be filled. If you dont you will allways have the dips in the finish john hall |

Michael brings up a good point. Many folks prefer wood to look more natural, with the pores showing. There are many circumstances wher I too prefer that. Unfortunately for guitar builders, 95% of the buyers out there expect a dead-level, high-gloss finish. The other 5% want a dead-level satin finish. You can't get either without filling the pores properly. |
