Well I finished my 1st UKE!!!!! This was a total guess!!!! I had no idea what to do to build this one. Bought a book, emailed John Mayes, and then adapted!!! Intestesting story. Well when my first commission was delivered in Dec, another collegue saw it and said. "can you make a uke" I said "I don't know, but I can try" Well this nurse wanted one for her father who is retiring from the military after 38 years. He loves ukes and she wanted to have a custom baritone made for him as retirement gift. Once I accepted the challenge, she then told me the hook!!!!!! IT IS TO BE PRESENTED TO HIM AT A WHITE HOUSE CEREMONY!!!!! Ouch!!!!! Well it looks nice and I think it sounds fine, but I have NO means of comparison!!!! Baritone all Koa uke, EIR bridge and fretboard, red/white/and blue purfling. MOP and Red white blue rosette. I figured I better make this one patriotic!!! |

WOW, Andy, that is really really beautiful. Nice story too. Do you get to make the presentation??? Great job. Dang, as fast as you make instruments, you must have the whole night shift working. Ron |

I did nothing to that Koa. That is the way it came. I bought this set of Koa from Big Island Acoustic Koa in Hawaii. They are not Sponsors, but Josh and Karen are great to work with. I was in need of a baritone set, but one with a lot of curl and they would e mail me picts of what they had. I picked this set despite it being dark, because of the patern and flame |

I never burn the midnight oil!!!! unless it is at the hospital. I don't think my neighbors would like the sound of a router late at night considering I build in a shed next to my house. (About 30 feet from there house!!!!!) |
