Check it out. While at the flea market yesterday, I stumbled upon this old guitar. Being as it was near the end of the day, I got it for $10! It needs quite a bit of work, but I figure the $30 in materials and experience gained while fixing it up are well worth it.

The guitar is an EKO P2. As far as I can tell it is an Italian made instrument from the mid sixties. Everything is laminate, so I'm not working with expensive zoot or anything.

So my big question is since the back is separating form the body, should I just squeeze some glue in there and clamp it up or should I finish detatching the back, clean up the joint and then reglue?

Sorry about the fuzzy pictures, my camera isn't the best.

Really you can't go wrong here. Nice campfire guitar. Or fun guitar. I've done some of these and I'm sure most others have too... Good luck.

Have you done anything to it yet?????

DON'T do anything to destroy it's originality.

These guitars are extremely rare and valuable beyond what you might think.

One of these sold at auction at Christie's for over $35,000 last year.

Good one Don!

I figured the worst I could do was to make a wall hanging. I know the elctric EKOs have a big vintage following in Europe, but this one would never, ever be mistaken for a fine vintage instrument.

Call me wierd, but I just think there is something cool about making an old lady sing again.

Hi Joe,
with glue failure so prevalent, remove the back completely, clean up
mating surfaces and then reglue. It's good to practice on these cheapies
because there's absolutely nothing at stake! And when regluing the back
you can probably adjust the neck angle to improve/fix the action. While
the back is off you can check the integrity of the bracing as well. All good
practice. You probably won't even spend the $30 you mentioned. How
much is glue these days?
