I've been up in the air about getting a good feel for a new Warmoth parts guitar I have put together recently. Most of my discomfort is due to the flatter radius that is on the neck. It's a Warmoth pro, so it has that compound radius of 10" at the nut to 16" at the 22nd fret. My first question is: How should I shape the saddle radius at the bridge to get a nice, rounded feel? Do I do something in-between 10" or 16" or stick with 10"? I'm inexperienced enough to know what the best way to approach this because I've never owned a compound-radius neck guitar until now. I have a Fender strat with 9.5" radius straight-thru and I like that feel but didnt know if I could do such a curve on that Warmoth neck and sacrifice low action with it? I'm also battling an action dilema on the neck, as well. I have a 1/32" or so height on the 1st fret on bass-E and slightly lower on high-E, and I have somewhere between a 4/64 height at the 12th fret on bass-E and a bit over 3/64 on the high-E. The neck is really straight and the relief is quite minimal, but am I going to get alot of buzz if I want to get down to a 2/64" height at the 12th fret for bass-E and 1/32 on the high-E? I do enjoy my action quiet low, but anyone's ideas, thoughts or advice I'd greatly consider |

If you carefully set the action for each string, the radius will take care of its self. You will find that the radius at the saddle will be a bit flatter than the neck. More or less like an extension of the compound radius. Al |

al is correct; if you are going to use a radius guage 20" would be appropriate |

Al, Makes perfect sense. But would basically use the radius/curviture of the fret wire as your guide then? I guess I've always tried my best to set it after I've got the bridge saddles in some sort of respectable radius in accordance to what the fret board is. |
