OK, I have Quicktime movie clips I want to post on my website. Using the Export option in Quicktime 6.5.2 I have all sorts of options for saving. What is the recomended settings for such things as "export" "use" Video "setting" "Filters" "Size" sound "settings" "Internet Streaming" "hint exporter Settings" etc. I don't even know what a lot of these things mean. Basically what I need is a step by step on how to save quicktime files in the best format for posting to the internet. Anyhelp is appreciated. |

Thanks, My problem is that I know how to save them to different formats etc, but have no idea what settings are the best for posting on My website. I hae Some movies of Rita Chiarelli playing and talking about her new guitar when I delivered it to her and she has some great things to say. I also have some clients that Have recorded there recent CD's using my guitars and asm hoping to get permission from them to Post some clips from their CD's. Another Client uses one of my guitars in a Video that is showing on Much Music but I can't even get a hold of the fellow to get permission to use it or link to it. Wish I could. Again any help is appreciated. |

Hey arvey, Try H.264 compression, 30 frames per second, keyframe every 30 frames, allow for frame reordering, Quality set to "high", best (multi-pass) encoding, automatic data rate. As for image size try either 320x240 or 400x300 (or somewhere in that ballpark). Your viewers will have to have the latest version of Quicktime installed in order to view it though. I believe however that mpeg-4 was available in previous versions, which will also compress very well. As for the audio settings: try AAC. If your audio is primarily human voice/interview, you can get away with mono at 22kHz, normal quality, variable bit rate, target bit rate of 96 - 110 kbps. However, if you want better audio for music and such try this: stereo, 44.100 kHz, normal quality, variable bit rate, target bit rate at 128 - 146 kbps. Just leave Precedence at Bit Rate and you should be fine on both. Since you're putting it on the web, click the check box by "Prepare for Internet Streaming" and leave it at "Fast Start". I don't have H 264 as an option. I do have H 263, will that work? |

Yeah H.263 will work, it just doesn't compress quite as well as H.264. You should still be within an acceptable range for the web. Let me know if you run into any trouble. |

AAC isn't an option in my version for Audio either, Any other sugestions? I did it with Audio on MPEG 4 audio but the file is really big |

Oh I just found AAC it allows for Good Better and best quality, It also asks for output sample rate. I can put it at "Recomended" or choose a number. Where do I set the Varriable Bit Rate? it doesn't have Target bit rate but lists "bit Rate to be filled in. How many Megs should a file for the internet be? |

Not a chance (although I wish I was sometimes) I use an AMD 6, windows XP. I saved it as best I could and Got a 22.3 meg movie. |

I'm on a mac running OSX, so I'm seeing a few different options... Just for kicks, I re-encoded a video that I had... it's a tick over two mintues long and weighs in at about 9.3 megs with excellent audio. My settings for it were: Sorenson Video 3 compressor at 320x240, I limited the bit rate to 512kbps and encoded the audio using AAC (which is mpeg-4 underneath) as mono at 22.050 kHz. This particular video has a lot of very fast movement in it, which makes the compressor choke a little and increases the size. If you like, you can send me the video you have and I could mess around with it for you, I've got bandwidth and processor to spare at the moment. Videos with different kinds of motion can be better encoded in different ways. |
