Every day I log-in and on the pick your forum page, I see all the members that are logged in by name. This is real helpful when trying to get in touch with one of my fellow OLFs. But I also notice typically 5 to 12 visitors on site at a given time. This is great. We all love sharing our knowledge and sometimes lack of, with anyone. Just ask! ![]() ![]() You apparently have an interest in lutherie or you would not be here. So jump on in, the water is warm, ask questions, respond to others opinions. You can't do that as a lurker and without participating your missing the real fun. Who knows you may find your self more addicted to posting than Serge...............Naaaaaa not possible ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Hey Michael, don't you know that it's common knowledge that most of the "hiding" members to online forums are all Top Secret agents, looking for hints and clues? Or they are members for the IRS, Revenue Canada, (insert your own countries tax agency here__________) making sure that there are no hidden tax evasion. Or they are members of the NSA,MI5 (again, you know what goes here_________) looking for words like BOMB and WEAPONS OF MASS DESTRUCTION etc.... Well the only bombs and weapons of mass destruction happen to be in my shop, I call them wood working tools, but sometimes there is mass destruction. My shop, at the bottom of the mushroom cloud. ![]() |
Some lurkers are just members that haven't logged in yet.
That's me. My browser (Firefox on Mac) seems unable to log me back in when I return to my favorite web roost, so I'm often offline and log in only to post. |

Hey gang, I've been lurking for a little while, just soaking up as much information as possible. I read this site pretty regularly throughout the day. I'm impressed with how active the forum is as well as how helpful and friendly you all are! I've never built a stringed instrument before and I have just recently (over the past 3 months or so) started designing a tap-style instrument. I have plenty of questions and will bug you guys about them very soon! |

It is that kind of welcome that makes us newcomers so comfortable here. I hope do be "one of the guys" soon. Across the board, this seems to be the most friendly resourse that I use, in my professional and hobby life. Thanks to the leadership and the membership for that. Donovan |

Jump on in the water is fine! I started posting from day one and have recieved much helpful and patient advice. ![]() It just seems that 99.9% of woodworkers and craftsmen (including craftswomen)are extremely helpfull, honorable and down to earth people and it holds true here. Thanks everyone who has contributed to decreasing my ignorance level over the last month. I feel much more relieved approaching my first acoustic build with the quality of people here and the collected wisdom of their experience. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

A lurker? Yep, that's me. But, having savaged a poor, defenseless, but fortunately inexpensive walnut set in my first build, I'm going to need all of the help that I can get! Having bought wood from RC Tonewoods (I have a waterfall bubinga set stashed away waiting for the day that I think I can do it justice) and a bending machine and other related stuff from John Hall, I can't think of a better bunch to ask. I am about to start a build using an Australian Blackwood set and a bearclaw top. I'm cheating a little (OK, a lot) by using a set of Martin braces and a Martin neck. The back is a four piece set that looks very nice joined. I'm hoping that the four piece back doesn't cause any structural problems in the long run. Anyway, I'm looking forward to spending some time here and I appreciate the time all of you spend sharing your experience with us noobies. Paul |
