The bindings were just finished up on this box today.
Want to see how you guys (and girls *ahem*) like wood like this? The back / sides are Brazilian rosewood, a gift from my bro. (What a guy!) To me, it shows why the early taxonomists called this stuff Dalbergia Nigra.

Thanks for looking,

Steve

Steve...It looks gorgeous!! Can't wait to see it under finish. It's definitely a 10+ on a scale of 10. The bindings are also zootiful!

I'm going to send this post to my brothers...they need to step it up a bit

--------------------------------------------------------

Steve and the rest of the forum: IMVHO you do not have to worry about the term "guys".

I know what you mean and I completely appreciate your efforts to address the "gals" in this forum as well.

However, I have gotten used to the word "guys" meaning both genders. My second graders, boys and girls, say "guys" when they mean a group of their friends regardless of whether they are boys or girls.

The Oxford Dictionary (2005) defines GUYS as: a person of either sex (can I use "that" word?), individual, human, people.

So, unless any of my sisters( Sam and others?) have issue - relax: the term GUYS is fine

Steve,

That is lovely wood. I like the combinations of the purples, browns and blacks. You must have been in olefactory heaven when you made that box. I LOVE the smell of Old Rio Rosewood.

What does the top look like?

Steve, I suppose it's okay if you are partial to DROP DEAD GORGEOUS BRAZILIAN ROSEWOOD!

Nice choice of bindings -- beautiful contrast.

Wow, thanks guys for the very generous comments!

Jeanne--point taken. Prepare to be numbered with the rest of the "guys".

As far as being adopted into the Kinnaird clan, we'll ask our folks... but don't hold your breath.

Bruce--John and Barb hope to move up in September.

Ok, pics of the top. It is bearclaw Sitka, and has a Koa rosette bordered with Paua.

That's a pretty dark shot, so let me include a better pic of the rosette, before the top was glued to the rims.

And here's a close-up of the purfling / binding. It is black / Koa / blk / Koa / blk, with Koa bindings.

Thanks again,

Steve
