Hi folks, have any of you purchased and master grade Engelmann from Grizz? If so, was it what they said it was. How about their Cocobolo?

Thanks

Hi Gerald:
I can't speak directly to your question but I have bought a couple dozen sets of EIRW and it has been excellent.

Ed Dicks (at AC Woods) has some nice Engleman. He's one of the OLF sponsors.Tim McKnight38373.4866550926

Gerald, if you haven't purchased from Ed his link is above under AC Tonewoods. He's based in British Columbia and knows his stuff. Englemann went on special last year at his place for $12 a set for HAA. It was very nice. One thing I like about his selling modus operendi, you can dial in exactly what you are looking for, including Master. I have Master Sitka and Master Cedar and they are perfect in every way.

I have no doubt you can achieve the same with Grizzly. My new luthiers catalog came yesterday, and it's nice... you have to ask for it. I see their Englemann Master is 69 bucks. I'd bet on it being lucious.

I also will vouch for Ed. Some of the best wood, and best value around. His AAA tops look, feel, and tap like mastergrade tops anywhere else. In fact I got a mastergrade englemann top from allied, and ED's AAA was WAY better.

Thanks for the info guys. I met Ed at the 2001 ASIA conference. We hung out together some. At the time he had two assistants with him. Both were great guys too. I'll likely check him out. Still if anyone else has opinions about Grizzly as a supplier, I would like to know.

By the way. I hope to meet some of you guys at the ASIA conference in the spring. I guess that's the topic of a new thread, but we really need to support our guilds.

Yep, I bought some cedar and walnut from him, not only was it here FAST but the price was good and the wood was perfect. He'll be getting my business for tops from now on, in fact I wasn't even expecting to see the order for weeks (you know coming across the border and all) but he was faster than LMI and I can drive up to see them

Cheers

Thanks guys. I checked Ed's website and it appears he's out of Master Grade Engelmann. SO I ordered a set from Griz. I'll keep you posted on the quality.

Gerald, it's true, they sell so much stuff so quickly, they run out of wood in certain species or grades. This time last year they were out of Sitka. I can imagine a Canadian winter keeping logging at bay for certain times of the year...
