A while back, we talked of bending the short pieces of a cutaway, and I mentioned that we can use a couple pieces of wood and a clamp to help out if the peice is really short. Someone asked for photos, but I didn't have time right away...

Here's what I was talking of. Just two little pieces of scrap, with the bottom one being as thin as possible(to not get in the way of the bending).

Here's the piece in use(this is a scrapped mandolin rib, but the principle will work for guitars).

Great tip there Mario, it sure will help me out in Mandolin building also!

Thanks!

And finally, if we need to bend right up to the edge of the work, we can use a block to hold the rib to the pipe, while the other hand pulls the rib down to set the bend.

I always try to use a longer rib than needed, and trim afterward, but sometimes the figure is best right at the edge, or the piece snapped once and is now just barely long enough, or whatever. I've used this method more often than the clamp, but both work well.

Hope this helps!

Thanks Mario, I really like your KISS approach. Any chance you might someday do a pictoral of your neck joint?

Cool, thanks for the tip Mario, your suggestions are always helpful.

Wasn't it you who bent a small piece of maple around a 1/2 bolt and posted on the MIMF a couple of years ago. I can be done, just need the right heat eh?

Thanks Mario,

Very helpful as always, thanks for taking the time once again to pass on the good oil. Just to add a little more weight to persuasion, I to would really like to see a pictorial/tutorial of your neck joint if you can manage to find time.

Cheers

Kim
