I went over to my cousin's house last night to help him build a fireplace mantel. he gave me piece of 2x10 oak and a jig saw to cut some gussets. I told him it would be better to cut them at my shop on the band saw to keep the cut perpendicular to the surface. He told me to try out his new jig saw first. Man, I have never seen a jig saw cut like this. absolutely dead perpendicular to the surface. I forgot to write the model down but it was a Bosh. It had blade guides and a thrust bearing like a band saw. He said he bought it in Dallas last week. He paid $150 for it. It was in line handle. Great for detail. He said it comes in a horiz. handle as well. I got get one.

I ahve a really nice Rigid Jig saw like that and it kicks butt... don't use it often but when I do I'm glad I have it

No doubt. I have a router, laminate trimmer, and 5" RO Sander from them, and they're all great tools.

Personally, I'm dying to try a Festool product.

I got the Bosch 1590EVSK jigsaw a little over a year ago after having lusted after the older model Bosch at work for a few years. I was using a Craftsman before that.

This Bosch saw is the finest piece of machinery I've had the joy to use! It is powerful, precise, predictable, and expensive (I ran out of "P" words) - AND more than worth the cost. I haven't picked up my radial saw since I got the Bosch jigsaw. I cut out two tops & backs for my 1 1/2 guitars, cut the side profile for my 1st guitar (both very slowly & carefully), tapered two fingerboards, partially cut out two neck blanks including the headstocks ... this thing is the poor man's bandsaw - albeit with a few comparative limitations. The only trouble I ever had was in figuring out the weird blade changing operation.

All for $145 at Lowes!!

Ya could've said 'Pricey', y'know...

The thing that makes Bosch jigsaws so precise is that instead of clamping the side of the blade like most cheaper jigsaws do, Bosch jigsaws use a keyed blade in which the blade is inserted into the keyed hollow shaft and then locked into position 90 degrees from the way it was inserted. Then instead of the blade being clamped (which can only loosen up with time and vibration) the blade is locked by a grub screw which pushes down against the top of the blade to make it extremely rigid. Bosch has used this design for all of their jigsaws for the last 38 years. The newer models have an easy blade mechanism but the machanism is the same.

The blade is so rigid that you can plange the blade like a hammer through 1by pine if you plunge with the grain. I used to sell woodworking machinery and it made a very cool demo.

Another advantage with Bosch jigsaws is that they have both bi-metal blades and hollowground blades.
