At the beginning of this years golf season I was having a worse case of the set-up yips than Sergio Garcia.   I just couldn’t seem to be getting comfortable with the distance I was standing from the ball which resulted in standing over the ball to long, toeing shots and loss of distance. That and an irate – Scottish golf partner wife saying – “yer slower than a 3 legget sheep and ya kanna save Marrrry with that swing”. (translation – you’re really p’ing me off and you suck big time!)

So one fortuitous day while in the household library and room of great contemplation (think Hesh’s current workshop) I discover a golf magazine (that was somehow filed under lutherie). The article was on stance and hand “set-up” – absolutely brilliant short article.

The article explained that most weekend warrior golfers stand to far from the ball. When you set-up – drop you right hand (assuming you shoot right) and it should fall straight down. If you are standing to far from the ball when you release your right hand it will fall towards your body.   Simple fix and it really works! I am now hitting my irons consistently and my middle irons about 10-yards further. Further -- a happy spouse    Anthony Z38942.4180208333

Hey Serge -- I should mention Tricia has been golfing these past few days in the Montreal area and is heading up to Tremblant tommorrow for 4 rounds.

I am game for a round of golf anytime. Truthfully what I really suck at now is -- cooking, cleaning and ironing the kids clothes

In the mid 80's I had a tirade on the course during the County Bar Association Fall Golf Outing.(Yes, John Barleycorn was the fifth in the foursome) Was at a quite staid country club. Last time I played. I had(would still have) a slice that was boomerang-like-always wondering if it would come back and hit me in the hindquarters. I have threatened to come back to the game, but my compatriots say" Don't, Mike, You'll ruin a legend." Don't know whether it is their distaste, fear or respect or some of all.MT-PS- I wasn't mean to anyone but myself- A full set of clubs was ,however, reduced to 3 metal head Taylor drivers- and there was in impromptu cart race wherein I refused to alter my line and a competitor ended up in a creek- no injuries that were not treatable by a Swiss Army Knife and more medicinal ETH.Miketobey38942.4694097222

Anthony...sounds like there's a golf role reversal in the Z-family. You need to get out and play with the boys more and let Trish play unimpeded!

I like your setup lesson, but also remember...the longer you stand over the ball, the more tension you build up. Tension in a swing is poison. Just "grip it and rip it". I always try to bring my range swing to the course...especially during those nervous moments when you need to claw your way back into contention.

BTW...I just got off the course and have some issues of my own. It's always something!

Good luck with your game and stay loose!

JJ - things are pretty good with my game now! I managed 3 rounds last week and had a few in the high 80's.

I totally agree about standing over the ball too long --just ask Sergio Garcia

Wife is happily on a week long golf junket of her own just now. You'd enjoy playing with her ... never takes a practice swing (unless its on a bad lie) and just rips it.

You'd chuckle at this -- last Tuesday I had her by a stroke at the turn...suddenly the rules of golf come out -- Hey you can't move your ball in the rough....

I think I love golf as much building....

If we all manage to get to ASIA next summer we should budget some time and see if we can organize some golf -- who knows perhaps even the Hesh'ster might join in

I'm in for the ASIA golf getaway. Hesh...you in!!?? Anyone else?

Golf was my first love until I started building guitars...now I have split loyalties. In 2 weeks I'll be playing in the club championship. I love tournaments but this year I don't feel nearly as prepared. We'll see what happens JJ Donohue38942.8315509259

I'm in for golf anytime, anywhere. My skill is not on 'par' with my love for the game, but I make up for it with witty anecdotal banter and a gambling regimine that usually results in free beer all day for my partners.

I did shoot a 40 on the front yesterday, but I'll chalk that up to a freak accident....probably never happen again...

I feel a plan coming together

John/Mike -- for me it ain't about the score -- it's about good fun and banter! So there's no cut at the 1st Annual ASIA golf tourney.

No doubt -- we'll have a good turn out -- between potentially - John Elshaw, Alain, JJ, Hesh, Mike, John and myself we've already got almost 2 - foursomes. Serge -- are you in dude?

I can just see it at ASIA -- the confused looks on all those folks rolling through with their Calton flight cases -- and us -- hard shell packin our Taylor(Made's) Anthony Z38942.9962962963

Do we know where ASIA will be held in 2007? It has been in Maryland the last 2 meetings. Perhaps, Brock, Bill Moll or other ASIA officers will chime in.

Man, I haven't been able to get out the course yet this year. Every time I planned on getting out it has rained, not just a little shower rain, no, full fledged downpour with electricity.

Nice tip Anthony. I closed up my distance to the ball at the driving range and my slice went away quickly.   Now everything is going to the left. Sometime, you can't win.

I love golf too. Unfortunately, this year is a very bad golfing year for me. I went out ONCE so far

Last year I put in about 50 rounds... Oh well, I still love to hate it anyhow...

ASIA golf tournament... Sounds great! Count me in for sure!

JJ -- I suspect one of us should PM Brock as to where ASIA will be -- who gets designated? (Rather than all of us bombarding him with PMs).

Joe -- woops sorry about that    Ya gotta love golf fix one problem and another rears its ugly head. Everything going left -- are you hooking or pulling your shots?

Alain - great to hear you are in (I kinda thought you would be when you told me you were ASIA bound).

Probably pulling my shots. I'm sure I started doing it as a way to get rid of the slice...Gotta love those bad habits.

This ASIA golf tournament sounds like a lot of fun. What do you think my chances are of convincing Dawn that Maryland is a beautiful honeymoon destination?

According to Brock, St. Louis is the probable venue but not yet a done deal.

John/Serge -- caddy/mariachi. How does beer dispensing mariachi sound?

JJ -- Missouri you say -- you'll have to Show Me. Having it in St. Louis doesn't come as a surprise as Bill Moll lives near there. Guess we'll sit tight.
