Some of you may remember a redwood topped Coco Om I made a few years ago? It was a stunning set of coco. Well at that time I was able to nab two consecutively cut sets of coco and this week I started another Om using the sister set. Just thought id share. This is some specular coco. By the way, I got if from Chris at LMI.  |

Rub it in, Rub it in..... Man I looked all over for some Coco for my AGB project but couldn't find anything in my size 
I guess being bigger is not always better 
It looks primo and can't wait to see grain pop when you finish it. I do have some nice Cuban mohogany coming from Brad at Goodman Guitar Woods though. Should be here next week. |

Hey Lance, do you ever get any reaction to the dust? I have been somewhat afraid to use coco because of some of the stories I have heard. Beautiful wood - nasty dust or not. I look forward to seeing more progress pics of that! Donovan |

Very Nice mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm cocobolo!!!!!! Your pict shows it a bit darker than usual...almost like ziricote I love the stuff. My nicest set also came from Chris at LMI |

Lance is the only one who puts sets of Brazilian Rosewood on guitars and says that they are cocobolo... There are none of the tell-tale reds or oranges in that set...looks like highly figured old growth BRW. |

That is a great set. Are you doing anything to stabilize the sapwood? I have not built with a sapwood set, but I have observed the sapwood checking and separating from the heartwood on some slices of cocobolo that I have around the shop. A couple of builders I have talked with bake their backsets between a couple of heavy aluminum or steel plates to stabilize them, especially when using sapwood (Paul McGill is one). I don't remember McGill's recipe exactly, but I do remember that he baked the heck (we must watch our language here, right?) out of it. The other builder said 200A? F. for an hour is enough. McGill was hotter and longer. He did mention also that there is some risk of losing color, but that it is slight. |
