I am having problems-constantly receiving 'Internet Explorer is has experienced a problem, you have to close'
In add/remove programs, can I delete all the updates and re-download Service Packs and updates.?

Bob, have you run any anti-spyware or anti-virus programs? For a great alternative browser, give Mozilla Firefox a try. I know several members of the forum use it and love it.

Firefox is not an OS, it is just a browser program which can run on Windows. It is very easy to use and is easy and free to install. I use it at work and at home on all our computers. Much less problems now experienced with spyware, etc., and more stable than IE to boot. Good luck!

I echo what's been said. I.E. isn't a very good browser and it's
weaknesses are going to be emphasized as major sites start moving in
the direction of newer web technologies like AJAX that I.E. struggles with.

Can you transfer files from IE to Foxfire easily?
Did you loose anything in transfer?
Download included Google Tool Bar- I already have. Since both will be on same drive, should I delete the one I have?

Bob, Firefox includes a menu selection which permits importing all of your IE bookmarks. Also passwords (not recommended) other data types, cookies, history and maybe other stuff. I don't know about toolbars, I kind of like to keep things simple as far as downloads is concerned to avoid software conflicts and the occasional tracking program which tend to come with these sorts of downloads. You should try it, you can always uninstall Firefox if you don't like it.

I know that it is supposed to be possible to remove IE, but I am not an expert to advise what steps you have to take to do it safely. I also know it is not easily done like uninstalling a game or something and there could be problems if you don't do it just right.

My advice is to just leave it on your computer and not use it. The reason is some programs really work exclusively with IE like the autoupdate utility in Windows XP. I can't think of any others off the top of my head.

I remove any shortcuts from my desktop to keep thinks neat and remove the temptation to use IE. Autoupdate fires IE up automatically to do its thing. Hope this helps.

No need for google toolbar or any toolbar for that matter. It is the excessive use of toolbars that is part of the problem people have with thier browsers. One of the cool features of Firefox is a little search window that is on the upper right hand side of the browser. You can use it for google, wikipedia and a bunch of other search enigines. Keep it clean and simple and you can avoid a bunch of problems.

I have the same (minor) problem on the OLF as Hesh, using FF on a Mac. It also has a few hiccups with ebay.

In our lab, I recommend FF on all the Windows machines. Some of the students are amazed that there is something besides IE for browsing.

I downloaded and installed Mozilla, opened it and received a message it could not find Netzero. Thought maybe netzero had to be opened first. No Luck.

Bob, did you download Mozilla or Firefox? I think those are different programs. Are you a Netzero user? I have no experience using Netzero as I have a different way of accessing the internet. Just guessing here too, but before a brower can access the internet, your computer must be in communication with the internet. Back in my AOL days (Long ago) I had to start AOL - once connected I could then use any browser. Past that suggestion, I can't help much and you should see if you can find a solution by surfing the various Firefox help sites or Netzero help sites. Good luck!

You need to download Firefox (from Mozilla.com), run it. It'll import all your relevant info from IE automatically, won't touch IE in any way at all, it's perfectly safe. Read up on extensions if you want to add functionality to Firefox, although out the box (has google search built in, as well as other search engines, as others have mentioned) it does everything I want/need it to do.

You can't uninstall IE, really; it's an integrated part of Windows, won't work without it. You still set how you connect to the internet (as in, dialup or LAN or whatever) via Internet Explorer. No clue what 'Netzero' is, or why Firefox would care.
