If you finish the neck differently than the body, is the "whole" neck done one way? i.e. nitro on the body and oil on the neck? I can see that the feel of the neck could be be differnt/better with an oil finish, but then is the headstock also finished the same way or do some people split the types of finish for the different parts of the neck. I normally like the high gloss on the body and the headplate and just wonder what is being done out there.

Thanks,
Donovan

Hey Donovan:

I used True-Oil on my first kit, and my first one from scratch. On #2 I just finished french polishing the neck, and I love the look and feel of it. Nice and glossy, but smooth and not sticky at all.

I shoot shellac on the neck, then use the appropriate fillers. Then I shoot nitro on the face of the headstock while using Tru-Oil on the rest of the neck.
