Greetings!

My brother and a group of our friends headed out tonight to Taos, New Mexico with a trailer full of horses and I couldnt get away due to work

The are headed to his home there and then Tuesday morning heading down to Iron Gate over by Sante Fe where they are entering the Pecos Wilderness. They took 3 of our pack mules and will be pacing in camping then moving and camping for about 4 days. It was 104 here today and they are headed for the mountain tops. They are riding and camping there way back to a canyon outside of Tres Pietras where the drivers with trailers will pick them up. Here I sit in the heat

Mike, I feel your pain.
Some good friends from Nacogdoches are flying out to Scotland in a few days. Ahh, how nice and cool will that be? But we have to stay here and soak up all those BTU's.

Ain't Texas great?

Woohoo Taos, I spent some great time as a scout in those mountains. IT was like a weeklong vacation for a kid from Lubbock. I remember the ride home, trailing some hay-bailing string out the back of the pickup, tent stake in tow.....

Yeah, Mike, we want to see you here. It's hot, but the shop is AC'ed as well as the house.

Bummer Mike it sounds like a great trip.

Its 87 degrees and 38% humidity here in Toronto and I am heading to Houston next week -- ughhh!

Steve - it ain't exactly cool in Scotland either - but I guess its all relative if you live in the lonestar state.

Hey fall will be here soon enough and the laugh will be on us more northern folk.

Anthony, the NOAA weather radio said this has been the hottest week of the year. At or above the century mark all week.   And, no rain in sight.
Even the dew has been dusty.   

I'll take Scotland about now, or Canada.

Which reminds me--we'll be taking an early Fall train trip through western Canada. Sounds great to these ol' dry bones.

Yep, tomorrow. Had a good time with Dave Rector this evening. Marshall Tucker Band, some ribs and fixin's mmm mmm. Those ol' guys can still do their thing.

Steve are you picking up the train in Calgary and heading to Vancouver via the Crows Nest Pass? If so -- you are in for a real treat. The BC interior is really a treat to see -- it should show really well in the fall.

Anthony, Crow's Nest Pass doesn't sound familiar.
We haven't quite nailed down the itinerary yet. The one I'm leaning towards is the "loop", which goes from Vancouver, through Kamloops into Jasper, buses down to Banff / Calgary, then picks up the train again which takes a southern route through some tunnels back to Vancouver. Sound familiar? And by the way--how late would be TOO late to try all this?

Thanks Steve, we did. Can you say Ribs and Chicken and Black Angus Burgers...... Hey, you probably recognize Mattyeod Or Matt Jacobs? He's been down to LINT meetings he tells me... Maybe the Arkansas OLFers could meet the Texas LINTers sometime?

Steve, when does it get to late....tough question. The Vancouver through BC piece -- you are probably good through October. Alberta is a little tougher to predict -- I lived in Calgary in the mid-80's and remember in mid Oct the weather plummeting to sub zero.

If you are heading to Jasper -- I think it's the Rogers Pass that you will be going through which is really awesome.

I'd shoot for late September early October as the latest. I'd also check with Rod True and Shane Neifer. You also want to target seeing the colours change. The BC interior is breathtaking any time of the year but especially in the fall.

When you are on your trip try not to ogle all the spruce and cedar you'll see as future tonewood -- it'll be to distracting and no doubt cause your wife to justifiably cuff you but good.
