I did fine building my tenor ukulele until I tried using a ROS sander on the sides and proceeded to sand into the edge of the kerfing near the top. The side is quite thin there and has broken through leaving a tiny hole about 3/16ths long and just big enough to see light through. It doesn’t look like the wood is cracked just very thin in one spot. I know I should have asked you experts what to do but I just did what I thought would work. I thought I could use tightbond as filler for the hole and it seemed to go ok. As it dried it seemed to shrink into the hole a bit. At that point I added more tightbond to the hole and proceeded to build up the area around it with a layer of tightbond. I figured that when the glue dries I can sand it flat and complete the finish. One good thing is that I’m using tru-oil so it’s no problem sanding the area and blending it in. Would this be a workable solution? If not any ideas? Thanks Philip |

Wonder if a filler stick would work better here. Shellac sticks?? I have use them for a problem and it worked well if you can find a good way to match it. |

sorry no photos I loaned my camera to my Mother. I'm not going to worry too much about color match because its just for me and the area is small. Rich, You just reminded me of a product I saw at the Rockler store called wunderfill. I beleive it came is several colors. Maybe I'll slide by and check it out. Thanks Philip |

Glue does not make a good filler. It will shrink and it does not take finish well. Much better to make a wood patch. If you carefully match color and grain, you will make it less noticable. |
