Received the new LMI catalog yesterday, with an order.
They didn't let ant moss grow under them. New products and woods, all of which were discussed numerous times here.!!??!bob J38955.3182060185

I just got one with an order too. Seemes like there is a lot of stuff in there that they didn't use to have. Maybe it's just been a long time since I actually had their catalog in my hands.

The Stewmac Catalogue is my weakness all those wonderful tools and gadgets.

Ahh, I have the Stewmac catalogue too...delivered in the centre of a newspaper so no-one would NEVER know...

LOL Sam, I take it your hobby isn't exactly well received at home. I guess I'm lucky. My Sweetie sees this as a wonderful way to keep me home and happy. Now, if you are needing a bit of help, plain packages from the US might be less of a red flag than one with Stew Mac's logo on the outside.

FAR FROM IT!!!

My husband is absolutely delighted with the fact I'm into guitar building...he knows how restless and grumpy I get when I've got no creative projects....it's the "retail therapy" in the guitar department that bothers him slightly.... Sam Price38955.7623263889

I have it pretty good, when I left the store I used to repair at to open my own I had to leave the tools, jigs etc so I told my fiancee (wife now) what I needed to get. I was pretty broke from helping out my mom and paying more rent than I should of in the East Village. Out came her credit card and boom $800 to Stewmac and LMI. I actually had my first customer come in the day I received the tools. My wife rocks, we had only known each other for 3 months but she had faith in me. Now my business has exceeded our wildest dreams. In closing though she still looks at some of my tools and says "Have you ever used that?" I say I was about to but you interrupted me with the question

That is a great story, Evan. Read to to my wife and we had a good chuckle. She wants to do the same for me on my birthday and I protest, "Can we afford this?" Not too much protesting though.

That is a great story. You are lucky to have such a wife. You might also remind her that if you don't buy the newest, latest tool from S.M. or LMI when you go back 6 mos. from now they may not be making it any longer...soooooo...you gota get it right now!!!!!!

Actually my wife remembers how I use to blow money on less productive activities. You know the kind you have when your young & dumb. So she doesn't say a word when a package arrives. She's just happy I'm home and stay'in out of trouble!

Now, what was this thread abo...oh, yeah, the LMI catalog. I don't have mine yet, but can't buy anything for a couple of months anyway. I WILL want it then, though!

What I really want is one of the old LMI catalogs from six years ago or so. They looked like a great thing back then and I should've ordered it, but didn't, and now...well they don't make them like they used to.

Lillian, they used to have a catalog that you'd order for $50 or so. Not only could you use it to order wood and tools, but it had instructions on how to use the tools. It was almost a shop manual for luthiers in catalog form. Catalog updates came in the form of pages that you could add to your binder.

I believe that early LMI catalog was instrumental in getting people thinking about oil finishes as an option.

Over in the UK one of the big pioneers of oil finishes was a luthier called Rob Armstrong, once he sold one of his oil finished guitars to Paul McCartney people started to take the oil finishes seriously.

Robs work is very beautiful.

I have those old catalogs - they were 20 bucks, had lots of great info, such as how to make a radius bowl !!!! There were the pages from C&N on how to carve the heel on a neck, plus bender info ....
