Lightly flamed maple, maybe koa. |

Maybe some flamed eucalytus or Koa, or quilted Sapele. For a little less razzle, but very nice look just the same, some dark EIR. |

Classiest of all to my mind would be Macassar ebony, taken from the sides. I always think that self binds add a certain refinement to the look. But, I'd probably go with holly or maple. Colin |

I am with Colin. If you are doing macassar with bear claw, any figure in the bindings will conflict with the bear claw. I would do macassar cut from the sides if you can, with a microline purfling on the sides. |

I would consider boxwood or bloodwood. Mike |

Thanks to all. When I considered bindings, I came, basically, to the same conclusions. With Macass. I felt I had to go light color-maple,etc. or darker-ebony. I have also given thought to BobC's Snake-a-lam and mahog a lam.-Figured but smaller strip set off by purf. top & bottom-how do you think either would look? |

I like the ebony idea too. I try to find ebony with some brown in it (not too much) so you can tell it is actually wood. The really jet black stuff just looks like black plastic under a gloss finish. I have used brazilian too with Mac ebony, it was the dark stuff, and it looked nice. |
