Ok I've got a problem that I need to solve, we are overrun with flys here, I can't do anything in the shop without having to bat them away. It's infuriating to say the least, try carving a brace with something buzzing around your body and landing every chance they get...

We tried one of those powered zappers and it works great on moths but they don't bother me, I have fly swatters all over but I can't always catch the little buggers. It's making me absolutely crazy!!!

So does anyone know of a good way to get rid of them? I don't want to spray poison in the shop, but I have to get rid of them before I go insane...

Thanks

Order a batch of spiders!!!

Ya maight try some of those stinky fly traps. I have horses all around me and they seem to attract lots of flys to our area but they don't seem to bother me in my shop. Only when I'm relaxing on the patio havin a brew.

Do What the Aussies do and put corks on your hat!

Seriously thought could you use a fly spray to get rid and then put screens on your doors and windows so they can't get in.

I know what you mean about flies driving you crazy. We have these deer flies that bite the crap out of you. Luckily they don't get in to my shop.

have you tried those sticky smelly fly strips that hang form the rafters? I grew up on a farm with Cows/goats/chickens oh and FLIES!

This may be what John is talking about, but they come in a tube, and you just pull the tape out and hang it.

Works well.

John may have the best idea, although I do like bananas

Russ I can't keep them out because the second someone opens a door they come rushing in and I have to open the garage door if I want to cut a long piece on the table saw. I am just glad we don't have deer flies here!!!

My wife also suggested some sticky paper, I was think of maybe just taking up venus flytrap raising as a hobby :)

Thanks

Paul,

Is this a recent infestation? Seasonal?

If recent and atypical, you might want to try and find the new food source. Eliminate it, and the flies will go away.

Best,

Michael

Try giving your state Agricultural Agency a call or look on their, or other states webs. I'm sure pest control is lurking there

Get a slice of bread. Butter it heavily. Wave it around untill the flies stick to the butter. Makes a great sandwich.

I'd think something is attracting them. Dumpster nearby?

With it as bad as you say, I'd pull out the Raid.

Flys are small, but they spread germs by the jillions, or therebouts. They
land on... then your guitar... and you touch your guitar... and then your
face... and then your wife kisses you...

You guys are starting to creep me out :)

It's not just us, the neighbors have them too...

I just have to find some fly paper according to my neighbor and that should solve the problem...

Cheers
