Personally, I like bloodwood for bindings. Classical or not, I think the color contrast between flamed maple and bloodwood should look nice.

Are you going to use any sort of purfling on the back and sides?

Yeah, just some black/white stips to offset it.

I was concerned because I looked around on the net and didn't find any with this color combo and didn't want the guitar to look gaudy.

I know, It's just me but I don't care for bloodwood bindings unless they are with a reasonably dark wood. Just to much blood for me (The preceding has been a 2 1/2 cent proclaimation of an ardent beginner and may not reflect the sentiment of any larger community in its entirety)

That would be interesting to see. A different take on the old flamed maple/ebony combo (which looks awesome in my books!)...

I'd say keep the red theme throughout. Mad. rose bridge and FB maybe?

IMHO, the contrast between the two would compliment each other, as long as you don`t go overboard and try to get too fancy.

I've got a beautiful set of Quilted Maple that I thought would look nice with bloodwood bindings. Classical also. It'll be a while for me so be sure and show us yours when it's finished.

I was thinking about doing that, but I really think it would be too much. When the headstock and fingerboard are the same color, it just seems wierd. I was going to do that with some green vera wood on my last one, and decided against it. But I do have an awesome red Malagasy Rosewood fingerboard that I have to use on something sometime. I guess I could do a different headstock, as I haven't glued it up yet. Maybe a bookmatched flamed maple veneer? Nah, too much maple then...

I think the contrasting combination is visually stunning. Makes for a way different look, rather than the usual Ebony features that you most often see.

I'm not sure who the builder is on this Bloodwood/Spruce combo is but it sure caught my eye...
Maybe it will shed some light your way.

That's what I was looking for. I like it! Except I'm going to go with an an ebony fingerboard, and my bridge isn't quite that red, but still, that's what I wanted to see.

Yes, I totally agree about the headstock being too much, which is why I didn't mention it in my reply. Although, on my latest, the headstock does match the FB. I used Macassar ebony and it looks very nice. But then that is a dark wood...

This isn't curly, flamed or quilted maple, but it might give some idea of the look. It's some of the zootman's Ambrosia maple, trimmed out with Bloodwood.
Of course, I was trying to accentuate the red / pink in the sides / back. I worried about too much color also, so I kept the fretboard, overlay and bridge jet black. That's a neutral backdrop for the intense color of the Bloodwood. Anyway, perhaps this will help...
