Folks you have probably heard already but thought I would just comment here. Steve Erwin AKA "The Crocodile Hunter" is dead at the age of just 44. ![]() Steve was filming a doco at Low Island off Port Douglas North Queensland Australia when he was stung in the chest by a stingray. It is believed that the barb may have pieced his heart with the toxins then triggering a massive heart attack. Paramedics flew by chopper out to his boat but he was pronounced dead at the scene. I for one will miss him, he was a good bloke who just wanted us all to treat the animal kingdom with the respect it deserves. R.I.P. Steve, may his legacy be a better understanding from us all of our responsibility to consider more than just our own species as we progress. Peace to Terri Erwin and the kids, may they have strength and continue to shine his light. Cheers all. Kim |

The whole country is shocked. This afternoon I heard the prime minister on the radio getting choked up talking about Steve. I'm gonna miss him too. I've got a couple of mates who are just like him, in demeanor at least, not as knowledgable about wildlife as he was. Just a freak accident, he handled so many deadly creatures and to be killed by a bloody stingray... I really feel for his family, poor buggers. |

That's a shocker, I just saw it on the Drudge Report, I know he took some knocks here and there but he was likable fellow. He was bigger than life in many ways and will be missed very much.. -Paul- |

Holy Canolies! This is at surprising and at the same time not. I was always amazed at how he was able to escape serious injury doing the things he did. What are the chances someone would get stung in the chest by a ray? Don't they usually sting people in the foot? The animal kingdom has just lost one of its biggest supporters...RIP Steve. |

Terrible news. I always enjoyed his programs. He definitely gave us a wealth of knowledge, and showed us how to respect wildlife. This is a loss to the whole world. |

What can I say? The man was bigger than life. He will go down in history as a great naturalist, and a great teacher as well as an entertainer. It makes me very sad, and I pray for his family. He will be missed. Al |

I liked him too. Had no idea that a sting ray would penetrate a man's chest. Wow. Ron |

I heard he was swimming on top of an especially large Ray and startled him, the barb went up into his heart under the rib cage. This is sad. Me and my buddies were introduced to the very term "crikey", from this guy, I thought he was really cool! Rest in peace Steve. |
