Ok, so today I was chatting with my neighbor, he had mentioned to me that his dad had fell a cherry tree a few years back and that if I were interested I could see if any of it was good for guitar building. He then said " I think there is supposed to be some cherry in the attic of my barn" He had just moved in to this house a coupla years ago and never explored the hard to access attic, so being the wood junkie I am I said ILL GO! Bats and all!
Well, low and behold, in that attic was about 500 or 600 lbs of cherry that was cut around 60 years ago by the previous owner of this house. I pulled out a dozen boards and most seemed wide enough to squeeze in an OM size body. BUT back in the corner of the attic lays 4 boards that are 6" thick, 12" wide and about 8 feet long, I pulled one out, it was VERY heavy, and had a look, i think it would make a slew of sets, and or a ton of cherry neck blanks.
I am going to dig it all out and begin to lay it out for sets soon. I hope to get a nice supply of out of this.
I lot of it is flamed as well, not most, but some.

Cool find and a very cool neighbor too!

Wow!! Nice find. I love cherry. My first three are cherry, and I've been collecting cherry to build a drop front secretary. Good for you.

Ahh, yes! that's the stuff. I love that wood and use it a lot.
I recently came into a similar deal, and got some nice old cherry AND some walnut...but I had to repair the owners' Gibson J-50 in return, which was Ok with me!
Sounds like you have access to a LOT of it, Lance!

Nice score, Lance!!! My cherry/sitka parlor is one of my favorites. It works well and looks yummy under finish.

Cherry is so sweet to work with, like butter when planed with a sharp iron. For furniture it is my favorite. Never stain the stuff, it darkens up so nice in the sun all by itself. Congrats!

If it's anything like the European wild cherry, you're gonna love it! I've never used it as a B&S wood but have and love it for necks, (Russell turned me on to it for this). It works and finishes beautifully, but keep the blades very sharp.

You are a lucky old dog!
