The purple is a GOOD thing.
I hunt for EIR that has a nice dark red and purple.

Since I like to resaw my own wood I have never used East Indian Rosewood, but I broke down and bought a back-side set for the first time and was surprised to find that it was purple. I always thought it was sort-of brownish. Then I read where the purple oxidizes to brown over time. Does this take long, or are most EIR guitars purple? |

Marc, I think you'll find that your purple EIR will become a nice brown color with slight redish-purple tints once you apply a finish to it. You can test this by wiping some mineral spirits onto an area of the wood. Best, Michael |

EIRW will varry widly from coffee and cream tan, redish brown, greenish brown to purpleinsh brown. My favorite pieces have bothe streaks of the coffee and cream and pupleish brown Thess give a beautifuly interesting color varient under finish. though most 2A and 3A EIRW tends to be some what moono colored. I often get many 3A-master sets that are amazing in the color variance on a singel set. I some ove you don like to see sets with large variance in color on a singel set but I love it. |

What they all said. I love getting a set with some purple in there; they aren't all that common, and every supplier I know of has them at the top end of their grading scale. |

Marc I have sets sitting on the shelf for over a year. They do oxidize towards brown but the purple is still there. |
