Hey Tim, it is Hondo Mahogany and as for the grain....Because of the sort of "quilted" look that this stuff has I really expected it to be flatsawn (as quilted boards generally are) but the figure on this stuff has nothing to do with the cut, it is more loke pommelle figure. Reading the grain on this here wood isn't as easy as one might think as it seems to have a crossgrain appearance, something like that of lacewood which can look quartered when it is flatsawn and flatsawn when it is quartered...I will take some sharp tools to it tomorrow and examine the grain further but as for now I have to leave it as "I do not yet know".
