I just bent some black limba sides into a venetian cutaway and had a *little* problem with splitting. I think its a very salvagable piece, though.
I was wondering if you guys thin the cutaway section, and if so, how far?
I thinned mine out to around 1.6 or 1.7mm, but it was slightly inconsistent and I ended up the the small split.
TIA.

I usualy thin out the area to about .075, haven't made one in black limba however, I have no idea of how it bends. But .075 work well for rosewoods and maples for me.

Jim do you thin the whole side or just the area for the cutaway?

My sides are usually about 2mm and the cutaway portion I thin to 1.5mm
