Logs purchased from Hawaii are loaded into containers and shipped by boat to California, where they travel by rail to Columbus, Ohio. From there they are placed on a truck and transported to our millyard in Millfield.
Once the container reaches our millyard, it is unloaded using a front-end loader.
The majority of logs are then split via chainsaw into manageable cants that are small enough to be placed on the mill.
Cants are then placed on the mill and cut into roughly ?” slices.
Guitar and ukulele patterns are then layed out on these slices and blocked out using a bandsaw. These pieces are resawn using a horizontal bandsaw, stickered, and then dried for several weeks.
... and here is a great example of the finished product. This is a set of premium 5A Koa I picked up from them not too long ago.
Considering these guys are right in my back yard I cannot tell you how excited I am to see them come aboard.
