Hi Everyone! I am replacing a broken fretboard on a very new guitar. It's an ebony fb with maple bindings. I have never replaced a fretboard. I don't think I have any questions about removing and replacing the fb, but how do you go about repairing the nitro finish, without the finish showing the repair? Do you sand the neck, and respray just the area? and will that blend without showing? |

If the neck is M&T bolt on I would remove it and refinish it off of the body. If it is a dovetail I would carefully scribe the FB to neck joint with an exacto knife prior to removing the FB to avoid the finish chiping. your likely to have to do some scraping of the FB to match the neck profile when you install the new neck so sanding will likely be needed carefully mask off the body to avoid scratching and over spray. This is a lot more convenient if the neck can come off. |
