Russell, it's great to see you on here again!! What a pristinely made guitar! Such balanced design.. I really like the attention to detail with the Madrose fingerboard and bindings. I'm hoping to make a cherry neck next build...it sure does look good. |

Russell, great looking guitar! I really like the choice of MadRose for the bindings, they're sweet. I also think your neck design looks really cool! |

You see people, normally Russell is a very nice guy, helpful, generous to a fault and yes I have to admit it a very good guitar builder. But this time I think he's got it wrong, I mean a cherry neck with English walnut Back and sides! Now the problem is I'm in the middle of building an OM with Walnut B&S (a sister set to Russell's!) and a cherry neck from the same log as Russell's. OK, I'm staying faithful to the cause and using one of Luigi's Italian tops, but I mean is it fair that Russell posts his one ahead of me? I'm gonna have to wait at least a year now so that you guys don't compare them. And I'd planned on Mad rose bindings ![]() I bet just to make matters worse Russell's guitar sounds as good as all his others! You can go off a guy you know ![]() Great stuff as usual Russell, and thanks for the helpful info for my build. Lovely guitar ![]() ![]() ![]() Colin ![]() |

What if I had an English (yup, English) back with bent sides, italian (Luigi of course) braced top and 24.9 scale cherry neck almost fretted on my workbench? Shall we find an agreement for finishes ![]() |

Great minds think alike...the new rage in wood combos...English Walnut with Cherry Necks...next it will be Martin finding an artist that says, my favorite combo is English Walnut with a Cherry neck which Martin will make as a signature series and a new standard will have been created ![]() Really pretty guitar Russell...I was surprised how nice the Madrose complimented the English walnut but I really like it. |

Nice work, Russell! You always manage to make your guitars look different enough to stand out, but not so different as to make them look odd. They just look good! Wish we could get clear cherry like that over here. In fact, I wish we could get walnut like that here, too! Looks like EIR would if it could! |

Thanks Everyone I really appreciate your comments. Dave I delivered the guitar this evening and got the oppurtunity to hear it played in anger for an extended period. First of all the quality of shanes Lutzs is just out of this world, this was one of his AAA tops, Soundwise I don't think it has the same distinct seperation that I get with Euro, but to me it is warmer sounding with a nice clear projection. (If that makes any sense, I am struggling to put into words what I'm hearing ![]() Colin you know that I know your guitar will be extremely fine instrument, and will probably eclipse mine. ![]() Oh and did I tell you it has a twin which I need to bind and make the neck for, It is Walnut/Douglas Fir and will be french polished. Luigi Colins is also getting one of your beautiful Italian Tops ![]() Hesh I will do my best to get a soundfile from the owner. Walter If I could afford too, I would send you one ![]() Chris/Alain The Finish is Danish Oil, applied over shellac Carlton The guy who supplies me cherry say I drive him crazy as between Colin and I we take the best parts of the log and leave him with the problem of selling the rest. To everyone who noticed my absence, many thanks it is nice to be missed, and I missed the forum too. If I disappear from time to time it is because I have had to make some changes to my working life and now as well as guitar building I am working another business as well, and I have to go away to work. Unfortunately I was struggling to make ends meet just from guitar making and the financial pressure of having to make all of my income from my building were starting to take out some of the enjoyment for me, so I have changed things so although I will make less instruments per year, I will be able to make them under less pressure. |

Russell, yet another lucky owner, well pleased with his new toy, I know I would be. Yep Andy's cherry is stunning stuff Russell, I'm so glad you put me on to him, I've had some wonderful cherry neck wood, those great walnut sets and some outstanding rippled mahogany from him. He's the only guy I know that sends pictures of neck wood for approval before sending it! He's even cut it thicker for me so that I can try V-jointed necks on future builds. I've got some of Shane's lutz that I'm going to put on a Black Limba OOO, but I have to say the Italian wood from Luigi has to be some of the best Euro I have ever had my hands on, and I've got some very old Swiss and Austrian! It is very stiff cross grain and I'm very excited about it, I think it will end up very thin by the time it's voiced. Russell, you know I find you a very inspirational builder, we think along the same lines when it comes to guitars, both your build quality and aesthetics are of the very highest order. And thanks to Lance and the forum I have the honour of calling you a friend. Colin |
