That sure sounds like you've got your bases covered there Todd, but I have little experience with repair so you can take my words for what they are, just my thoughts, not much experience. I have not had great success matching up maple, it's IMO one of the hardest woods to spice together, especially the top view. If it were me, I might be more temped to route off the maple binding only, repair the purfling as you stated and install new binding. But that might be the easy way out. I'm sure those with considerably more wisdom and knowledge than I will chime in. |

I would listen to Rod although heart braking to route off nice bindings like this. What a bummer indeed! Good luck with the fixin' Todd! |

Todd, I think you can splice it together , but if it doesn't work out then you can rout the whole thing off. I agree, go with the spot replacement and if it doesnt work go to something else. It is worth a try. Sometimes the glue you use is the most important thing for not showing a line in the splice. I always use titebond original and it is better than superglue for no lines but I dont know what would be the best. Godd luck!!! Keep on keepin on, Homeboy |

Todd, I'd try your spot repair first, like you suggested. Perhaps only go to the join over the wedge? I say this only because you are so good at joining maple. I showed your picture to my SWMBO, and she just groaned. We feel your pain all the way over here.

Great solution, Dave! I also enjoyed the irony, considering the recipient's first name. Hey Todd, you could always put "Gibson" on the headstock front, stamp a "2" on the back, and send it out as it is!
