I was recently blessed to aquire some beautiful curly cherry and a lot of black walnut. I would appreciate your advice on storing wood.

Stickered is good advice for starters IMVHO.

I just helped my neighbor drop a gorgeous maple tree that was damaged in a storm. Upon cutting it up, I noticed some outrageous colors and curl to it. I'm not sure what to do exactly either, but I did seal the ends with a latex wood sealer and stickered the planks. I ahve them in my shop at 45 RH and theres always a small fan on in the shop to circulate air. I'm thinking thats about all you can do?

Let me help you out there me old mate. Summer is about to crank up here in sunny Western Australia. You could just send all that nice old maple on down my way, it will be dry in no time.

Strewth, I even have a great big ol'bandsaw at the ready so when those boards are all nice and stable, I can resaw into sets and send one or two back over free of charge.

I know, I know, just like all my friends keep telling me, "generous to a fault", and as I keep tell'in the Mrs, it's my only one

in addition to stickering and air circulation mentioned, you need to weight the stack. concrete blocks, sans bags, engine blocks, whatever, just to keep the natural tendency to beome pretzels under control.

there are many who believe that wood should be tried out of doors under cover. refer to current thread on seasoning. the big european maple vendors dry outdoors, as does steinway and sons.
