Hi Lillian,
I don't know what Frank wound up doing, but for what it's worth, I fixed my problem with my customer's Bass guitar fretboard by simply convicing him that it looked pretty good with the S.M. oil dye stuff ( which was what I originally used). I did order some dye from LMI and also mixed up a batch of Vinegar and Steel wool. The V.S.W. mix works well (on my test wood) but produced more of a dark brown rather than black color. I am going to try experimenting some more with all the dyes and Black CA when I get the time...unfortunately it won't be on the problem specimen, but perhaps with enough testing I will find a solution regardless. THANK YOU to everyone who offered assistance/tips/tricks/etc.
