Hi everyone. I'm getting ready to saw up a big board of bubinga (repeat outloud three times rapidly) that I found at Woodcraft this summer so that I can get it into the inside wood rack. In trying to optimize the board for back and side sets, I'm having trouble with a knot that falls in the middle of a back. However, if I rearrange a little and do some uke sets, I think I can reduce the waste to near zero. So, whats a good standard size for a uke back and side set, and is bubinga decent to use for a uke? TIA |

A concert size uke body is 9.38" long (martin style one). If you rough-out 12" you'd have at least an inch on each end to play with. I don't know how much longer the sides would have to be you can prolly cyfer that out yerself. hope this helps. long |

A concert is 12" long x 9" wide x 3" thick The side is 18 1/4 long. So, rough back & top board would be at least 14" X 5" Side would be 20" long x 3 1/2 wide |

Well, I guess we all have different sizes for ukes, but this is what I go by. The side profiles were drawn out in CAD and the lengths are the exact length of the line, as drawn. So add a bit of length for side blanks. So for example if I am cutting a blank for a soprano side I try to have at least 14".  |
