Mor question about jigs for binding routing. Which jig do you prefer; Williams or the jig sold by guitar jigs? Will a laminate porter cable router do fine work on the jig sold by guitar jigs. If not, what do you need? Bob johnson |

Bob I am not familiar with the Williams jig so I cannot really compare the two. I have used Mark Kett’s jig (www.guitarjigs.com) now for over a year and it is just terrific. I have it set up with a Makita laminate trimmer. I would imagine that the porter Cable trimmer would work just as well. I think the jig can be set up with almost any kind of router. If you decided to go with the Kett jig then I would buy a router and dedicate it specifically for that jig. When I first got it I was taking the trimmer of to use for other jobs. When I remounted it on the jig and cut my binding channels I found that it had moved just a hair off center. The result was channels which were not flat on the bottom. I drilled new holes and remounted the trimmer. I have not taken it off since and have had no problems. I can cut all my binding and purfling channels in 10-15 no problem. This jig has saved me tones of time and is well worth the money. Josh |
