I thought rather than hijack the thickness thread or have this hidden in there, I'd start a new one.
What is the thinking behind attaching and/or NOT attaching the bridge plate to the X bracing.
I believe its Cumpiano that suggests leaving it shy of the X, some folks butt up against them, and some even tuck them into the X.....

I butt it up against the X. I think Cumpiano/Nathelson suggest this also...

I think you will find the majority will go this route...

For a long time I inlet the plate into the X but now I snugly butt up.

Tucking is a less-than-good idea. The bridge/bridge plate is one of those areas that will likely need repair in the course of the guitar's lifetime. If it is tucked into the x brace, it will be most difficult to get out should the need arise.
Butting up is adiquate.

Never tuck a bridge plate into the X-brace!
Your asking for trouble !
Also -just think -cutaway the X-brace !!!
Butting is great!
AND if you build your guitar right from the start the plate will NEVER need to be replaced !!!

That's another post !

what michael said. bridge plates are bad enough to get out when they are not inlet into the x; if they are it would be just about impossible without a major disassembly.

Hi J.
Cumpiano butts the patch against the crossbraces , but does leave a small ( 1/8 " ) gap between the patch and the first lower tone bar .

Good thing or bad thing ?

Hi J.
     Cumpiano butts [/QUOTE]

All right, lets inventory this thread:

    We have bevelled butts

    We have snugly butts

    We now have Cumpiano butts

interesting.   Hello Kiwi, we aren't seeing enough of you on the forum lately.

Yes, Thats right, its the tone bar that there is a gap on, and not the X. My mistake. Sorry. So, it seems that we're all in agreement on the butt, and that tucking is a very bad idea for future fixin'.
Thanks!!

I'm very inexperienced, but my plate just pushes up against the bracing.
