if i put rosewood dots on a maple fingerboard will I be able to sand them without staining the maple? I'm just about to attack my 1st maple f/b and A burst of paranoia overcame me..... |

Because Maple has closed pores you should be fine...a better alternative is to use a sharp scraper..it will leave it smooth with less chance of dust. |

Nope Ron, chuffed is proud, happy, all fluffed up. I'm especially pleased as I turned the dots from an offcut of rosewood and then sliced them off the stick. now here's a thought. never had a maple F/B before..... do I varnish it or leave it like Rosewood? |

If I were you, I would protect the maple somehow. Stains from kiddy goo etc will impregnate into the wood. Is the maple FB pre-slotted? |
