OK so I made my first jig ever... if you can call it a jig. Go ahead and laugh... I can't help it I'm excited.

I needed a way to draw out my workboard 1/2 and inch larger then my template. So I cut some paint paddle down and made a hole for my pencil at 1/2 inch!

Good idea, sometimes it's the simple little tricks and discoveries that make this craft fun. Another way is to use a washer and roll it along the edge.

Nice .. I like the clamps you have there as well .. could use at least 6 of those around the shop from time to time

I like that!!

I`m not trying to rain on your picnic, but a flat washer might work a little better and more accurately.
Lay the washer against the template, pencil inside the hole, and roll the washer along the template. Make sense?
You`ll lose the accuracy of the inside curve when using a squared edge as you`ve shown.
Just trying to help, dude.

I dont think that its too "critical" that the 1/2" dimension remains deadly accurate for the outside dimension of a workboard,
.....or does it?
Ive seen layout tools with just such "technology" employed - youll be on to more advanced jigtech in no time!

Building jigs can get to be an obsession in itself. Lately, I'm doing more jig-building than guitarmaking. I just completed the Woolson/Fox neck angle jig I'm finishing up the CoolTools FB radiusing jig and just started the Williams binding jig. Next on the list is an adaptation of Mario's neck jig that he described in "Guitarmaker".

Does it ever stop???!!

I can`t take credit for the washer idea. I happened upon it throughout my research. Maybe I saw it on Joe Woodworker`s site. I don`t remember right off.
