Well, first of all, i had to modify my binding cutter jig to be able to route the waist of the SJ which is more tight of a curve than the one on the Dreadnaught, the metal plate was too wide so i replaced it with a nice piece of plexiglass i had layin' around the shop and that i made narrower around the bolt that supports the bearing and the plexiglass plates

here's how my jig looked before...



and now, the pic doesn't show well but i'll take the jig apart this week end and might make a tutorial on how to make this jig, here's how it looks now anyway



routed the channels for the purfling, binding and end graft









Bent the rope purfs and the ebony bindings, i did not use Manly temperatures to bend these either, the bindings here are 2 mm wide compared to maybe 4 mm on the previous purple heart bindings! i think the bulbs could have done the job alone but used the blanket just a little to warm it up quick.

Serge, it looks like the end graft worked out..good on you..I really like the look of an end graft that matches the back seam.

Good thought going with the rope purfling...that is going to look so great.

This guitar is really, really coming into its own as are your skills. Keep those pictures coming!

Thanks Anthony! it worked out ok except for little holes that will need filling with dust and either Titebond or HHG but yes, i'm pretty satisfied with the results thus far.

The rope purfs and the ebony bindings are gifts that were sent to me by my bud Russell Rose that i miss very much on here BTW!

Thanks Hesh, no, no trouble at all, i just slightly turned on the blanket and the bulbs did the rest, heated them to 280-300 degrees and it went pretty smooth with the wrapping of it all with wet paper and foil. Ok will clean up the mess you neat king you! Thanks bro!

I too have just bent some ebony and had no problem either. Nice stuff eh?

Rod, yeah, i loved bending the ebony slowly, i now prefer my bindings that size, easier to work with. Looking forward to see your closed up box bro!

Thanks Billy dude! I'd say somewhere after Christmas, either january or febuary depending on how it goes building the neck and mostly the finishing which should be a new approach for me(Dudenbostel's method-->FP over varnish ). The clamp was easy to make as you can see!

Looking good!
I'll be interested in seeing your tutorial for making the router guide. Looks
very affordable and easy to use.

I'm a newbie working on my first and had my hands in on a previous build.
I have bent about a dozen ebony bindings with a light bulb supplied Fox
style bender and have never broken one!
The trick I learned was a mixture of fabric softener and water...works like a
charm for me and I barely know what I'm doing!

It looking great Serge. As for you jig there, I for one am very interested in seeing your tutorial on it.

Lance, Brock, is there anyway we can capture these tutorials and add them to the jig page? I love the idea of the jig page, but some of them are rather short in explanations of how they were done.
