There ain't much GRIZZLY around here but there sure is a Scrounging Bear! ![]() ![]() ![]() I wanted to have this tool... ![]() but since it wasn't available here in Canada, i had to be inspired somehow to come up with an idea to sand my guitar sides with something that would work in the same manner and came up with this ![]() ![]() Now my wifeis gonna kill me when she finds out! ![]() Took the handles out... ![]() inserted a 1/2" steel rod in the core of te drum... ![]() Cut it to length with my beautiful hacksaw... ![]() The handle's small rod being too long now, i had to cut it to length with my very beautiful hacksaw... ![]() Here's another view of my extremely beautiful hacksaw in action... ![]() ![]() Had to scrounge for a little plastic thingie for the handle rod that was cut, i wanted the handle to remain sturdy and able to roll freely so i found this little plastic thingie to insert on the small rod, into the core of the drum... ![]() Et voila , gotta do whatcha gotta do!(pronounced a la New yorkaise! ![]() ![]() Now, for what's left to do, i chucked it in ma very sexy drill! ![]() And used about 2 feet of glamourous 80 grits sandpaper from Lee Valley... ![]() installed/taped it to the drum of ma FANTASTIC JIG! ![]() And now tell me where to copyright this wonderful thing!1!!! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Thanks for tuning in, it was a delicious moment spent in the shop tonight, building this jig in about 30 minutes, the longest part was finding that little plastic thingie! ![]() Cheers Serge |

Hey Serge, I hope nobody misses that rolling pin or you'll have to call it a power pie dough roller. |

Thanks Terry and Keith, the nice thing about it is that i now have more sanding length than i really needed and saved probably a $100.00 making it! Downside is, my wife will grab who knows what to hit me by the head now! ![]() Cheers |

Serge, you are a genius. That is just great. I like it. There are always wooden rolling pins at the local MCC, I'll get my wife to pick me up one on Thursday (Her normal MCC day). It'll cost me about $1.50 or less. Um got anymore of the plasticy thingie's? What we really want to know is.....how does it work for you? you could put 100 grit on there and it would be good, less deep scratches to clean up from the 80. Great job, I'll be making me one of these. I'd call it a tool though ![]() |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Thnx people, it's good to have so much fun and encouragement simultaneously! Lillian, nobody would want to see this Bear cry huh, gotta have my desserts! Sugar pie please! ![]() ![]() ![]() Steve, i'm guessing that you won't be eating desserts soon either! ![]() ![]() Thanks Rod, yes, i'll send you one if your wife forgets about the rolling pins at MCC! ![]() Seriously, it works just amazingly well and balanced and both forward or backward especially when you atart sanding at the upper bout and bringing the tool back towards you at the lower bout. I've given the idea to Alain last night and decided to put it to the test today and i'm just delighted by how easy it went to put it up together and to use. I might come up with some device/handle that will allow me to press the trigger from between the chuck and the trigger itself or just leave it like it is, it was really easy to manoeuvre and maintain speed, increase or release it. 80 grits worked just fine on the white ash but i would agree plenty with you on going with 100-120 grits for it could easily go quick sanding through. Thanks for the compliments and for noticing my very attractive hacksaw! ![]() ![]() |

serge, my compliments. another example of necessity being the mother of invention. this was a brilliant solution to the problem and produced a tool which will do the job just as well as the commercial offering, i'm sure. at least for a while. my concern is that the plastic bearing will wear fairly quickly so you may have to think about putting a bearing on the handle but that should not be any problem. thanks for sharing, now where was that rolling pin....i've got to make one too. how much is your intellectual property licensing fee? |
