I thought this might be good for the archives. What do you think of making a pic thread of various finish types? I can foresee pictures of guitars finished in nitro, french polish, Behlen's rockhard, etc. Unfortunately, I don't have any. That's why I thought up a thread that would help me compare ![]() |

James I think several photos wouold not end up show much in way of differance unless very well done, side by side in the same lighting conditions |

I agree. The differences would be too subtle to show in most photographs. Also, when looking at finishes, I usually move the object, or move my head so that I can see reflections moving across the finish. That motion would be lost in photos. just my .02. |

After 37 years full time in this business the only way I can tell finishes apart is with chemical testing, and sometimes even then it gets dicey. A thin lacquer can look just like French polish, and a thick French polish can look just like polyester, etc. |
