I showed a few pics of a tail-wedge a week or two ago, since then I ended up cutting out the tail wedge as it cracked when I was cutting the binding ledge. I also had the binding glued on when I notice it was cracked as well....Sooooo, I cut everything off and started over, this is what I ended up with, please let me know what you think, I will have an African Blackwood Bridge and an ebony fretboard with flamed maple binding as well.

You have created the "hour glass" wedge. Some one else may have seen one before but I don't recall seeing this design.

I would have never know it was a "plan B".

Very nice Greg. Where did you get the flamed maple binding. I've bought some, but the figure isn't as nice and consistent as yours.

The bookmatching on the back, and the rosette are really nice also.

Thanks guys, yeah, plan B turned out O.K.

Gene, I bought some precut flamed maple bindings before as well and was never happy with the "flame" part of the binding. So I located a billet with some strong flame and now cut my own binding, it is a time consuming process versus buying it ready to go, but seems worth to me at this point.

Nice job Greg .. to me, strictly my opinion, it needs a black purf line on the sides - there is a black line everywhere else including the wedge, just a consistency of design thing I think about a lot when putting guitar aesthetics together. But then again maybe not - to each his own. Just a thought.

I can't disagree with you, I saw that too, if I did it again I would add the black purfling on the side...oh well, I think it still works?

Its fine Greg ... its very well done, and that matters more to me than aestetics. Make it work first, beauty later !!! Nothing is out of place.

For a real contrast, check out an original issue John Mayer OM model .. I love the guy, but he has weird taste .. bwb with shell rosette, herringbone edge purf, silver inlaid purf bridge .. to me its too much clashing ...

I am with Tony here. It is very nice as it is but your next shot at this end graft mitered side purfling will make that shape have a more refined appearance and it really is only about an hours or less more work. Personally I think a two or three line (w/b or bwb) will really make it pop.

The purfling line will lessen the eyes tendency to focus on the 90* change in grain orientation and the butting joint of the maple.MichaelP39069.6503819444
