Has anyone heard of using Jatoba (Hymenaea courbaril)-commonly Brazilian Cherry, for fingerboards. I've laid several hundred feet^2 in my house. It's extremely hard- the hardest floor wood I could find, and looks to be quite stable. The color ranges from blond to oak when freshly cut, but it darkens quickly to very dark reds, dark cherry to burgundy. I have 30 or so 3 1/2" wide boards left over, and I'm thinking of trying it for fingerboard material. TIA

I too have some but none of it is very well quartered. This is my issue with it, otherwise I would certainly give it a try.

I have used Jatoba for back and sides and it makes a nice guitar. Hard and stable, I think it would work fine for fingerboards.

I'm going to try it on my next guitar. I use bolt-on necks, so if it doesn't work, I can always replace it. I'm not sure that quartersawn or not will be as important on a fingerboard. Guess I'll see...

I also got a plank of Jatoba that was given to me by my bud Alain, was wondering the same thing, i think i'll give that a try and make fingerboards, bindings and headplate veneers with it.
