I am soon to start a conversion of an acoustic guitar to a single cone ( dobro type) resonator guitar.
I see from other posts here that either a soundwell or an open box are possible methods of construction.
Is the quality of sound affected at all by using a sound well versus open box with support posts?
Is such a conversion viable, or are there reasons why an acoustic body cannot be converted to a resonator?

I can't really comment on the difference in sound, but I think a majority of builders build top models with open boxes and they sound excellent. I'm heard people describe it as a " more modern sound" or, as someone told me, "more open" Which is just about useless.

And I can't really comment on a conversion either. But I think Tony Done has done conversions. He doesn't post here but does on the Google Group,alt.music.guitar.resonator. I haven't monitored that group much since my ISP dropped the newsgroups, but I just checked and I see Tony does still post there. Might want to post your question there or do a search.

Now that I think about it, Tony's conversions may be biscuit bridge guitars, but the actual conversion concepts would be similar, just a different cone support for the most part.
