Hi All,

Not sure if you have seen this:

http://www.zenbotcnc.com/merchant2/

Seem like "decent" machines for someone getting started, and wants to learn the CNC process...way cheaper than some of the machines places like rockler are selling.....

Figured it would be of interest...as one of my customer's is about to purchase one and told me about them....we shall see I guess....

I've often thought of one of those for circuitboards. Any idea of what the step resolution is?

Step resolution depends on the drivers...and off course the motors. I am thinking, that they use typical 200 step 1.8 degree motors.

With that said, and a good drivers like keling or gecko, or even cheaper ones, like xylotex, you can further subdivide the steps into microsteps, say 8,10 or 16 for example.

So doing this, a 200 step motor, with say a 10 microstep driver, gives you 2000 steps, or 1/2000 .0005 resolution....you need more than that? :D

Not sure exactly about your question....

Maybe I missworded. I'm wondering what the finest movement the machine can make.

The manual's posted on the site and has that info:

Quote:
The drive pulley diameter on this machine is 11.6 mm or .45669 inches. The
circumference of the drive pulley is 1.4347. This means that the motor rotates .69701
turns per inch (1/1.4347). The stepper motors on this machine are a standard 1.8
degree per step motor, which means that there are 200 steps per revolution. Now you
just need to know the micro-step settings on your drivers. The formula for calculating
the steps per inch is .69701 x 200 x micro-steps/step. For a 1/8 micro-step driver, the
formula would be .69701 x 200 x 8 = 1115.216 steps per inch.

Micro-step setting Steps per inch
1/10 1394.02
1/8 1115.216
1/4 557.608
1/2 278.804
whole step 139.40

The real question you need to ask is "what are the finest moves it can repeatably make" which is different than what the screw moves for each pulse of the motor due to play and backlash in the various components.
