Which is better? I've decided that if I'm going to spend $3000 or so on a milling machine to do just pearl cutting but it only goes to 11000 RPM then I might as well find a sturdy platform and fill it with nice components for about $6000. Twice the money, but 24X48 inches worth of work space gives it ten times the capability. I could all things guitar related, from manufacturing necks and bodies, cutting fancy/schmancy rosettes, to cutting my "S"'s and possibly making some hardware. So if I want to machine bridges out of brass components as well, then I need to know what will do it. Anybody doing stuff like that? |

It seems you've taken the red pill. I think there's quite a bit more research for you before you pull the trigger. Here's a thread I started when I was at a similar point: viewtopic.php?f=10106&t=30245&hilit=taking+the+plunge#p401309 |

For your answer, though: spindle. They're so cheap now, on eBay or though AutomationTechnologies, that I can't see any good reason not to get one. |

They look like they can achieve higher RPM's in a smaller package, too. |

Spindles use three phase brushless motors, which are much more efficient than the universal motors used in routers (ie: lighter, stronger, faster). Also MUCH quieter. |
