I am soooo excited.... .....first test cut using my new 6040 Chinese machine...and VCarve Pro....logo drawn on Inkscape then imported and edited in Vcarve ....I changed out the wiring to shielded wiring as per recommendations from the CNC zone forum, 1/16 bit ....this is Fun!!!!!

Congrats on your first cuts. I remember when I cut my first parts as well and the accomplishment of doing so.

Wes are you using MACH3? If so, if you get a phantom limit switch trigger the cure is very easy and cheap. Just bridge a 0.1uf non electrolytic polarized cap across the limit switch wires at the break out board. That will get rid of phantom triggers. Don't ask how I know that. LOL!!! Chased my rear on that one a long time ago.

Good job! When I first started with CNC, I planned to cut inlays, maybe fretboards, but mostly to cut parts for jigs that I'd use with routers/shapers/etc. As I had a few successes (which do feel pretty darned good), I realized what else I could be doing with the machine and it's just gone on from there...Those parts for jigs I'd use on other machines have gone away as time as gone on. Jigs on thumb drives are sure smaller and easier to store than shaper jigs, and CNC makes it possible. I bet there's more than one of us out there who have gone down similar paths. It's just lots of fun.

But, it's an addiction--watch out Wes!

Um…not sure here but I don't think there's such a beast as a non-electrolytic polarized cap. Apparently there are non-polarized electrolytic caps but not the other way around (had to look it up).

Since you're trying to filter little spikes and such, you want a non-polarized cap and .1µF are easy to come by

Oh yea… I had to knock out a bandura bridge for a friend who's instrument I'm re-finishing (added a bass string). I was about to go and cut one out by hand but as I sat there looking at the blank I'm like - jeeeez, I've already gone way over my time limit on this job, it will be much faster to just knock it out with the CNC…and it was.

That's a nice looking machine. What's your take on the quality?

The machine itself is real solid, construction is very good....as for performance, I am new at this so we will see, I did change out the wiring to shielded cable that is recommended and I added home switches on all the axis , The spindle seems very good and is quiet...no complaints so far...
