I guess this is the right place for me to introduce myself. I'm a ukulele maker (luthier is too grand a word for it) with 117 videos on YouTube of build processes, cool tools I've built and instructional videos how to play blues on this humblr but complex instrument. I have a 'group' on facebook that you are welcome to join where I post most of my work and working practice and when I can find the charger to my camera will be posting further videos on my YouTube chanel.

I'm not original and I have no desire to change the world. One thing I am doing however is turning toward the use of indigenous woods for my builds with my latest find/substitute for ebony being bog oak. This stuff is black and usually over 3,500 years old. It needs epoxy filling before fret cutting and careful work inlaying but it is worth having less hassle exporting etc.

I hope to visit fairly frequently to join in discussion and hope my 35 years building experience may be of some use here...

Hello, Pete, and welcome. I spent about an hour viewing your videos this morning. Thanks for calling them to my attention. Nicely done!

Welcome to the forum, Pete. I watched your Luthier's friend and slotted headstock videos and liked them a lot. I see you have a bunch of other videos as well and plan to watch them too. I'm pretty new to luthiery, having not quite completed my 1st and 2nd acoustic guitars (and started a 3rd), but I have an interest in ukes as well and plan to build one before too long. I'm sure I'll be referring to your videos when I do, although the two I've watched certainly apply to guitars as well as ukes. Thank you for sharing them.

I started with guitars but learnt my lesson laughing6-hehe

Don't make the mistake of thinking that ukulele are just small guitars - they are not. many modern builders come at them from a guitar angle that IMHO I think is entirely wrong. They are simple instruments and need to be made so. You will find out that when you start on the journey those guitar making skills are fine but they are like riffs - without the chops, they can be meaningless. Example - it took me a good 10 years to learn how to build a good koa soprano - mahogany soprano build themselves...

Pete,
Glad to see you here. I have watched and enjoyed your videos on U tube. I like your direct pragmatic approach.
Good stuff.
