hello folks. i came out with this router jig and i wanted to show it to you in pictures. its not fancy and does not look so great. but it has very little pieces and moving parts so i guess its worth sharing.

its basically a blank of hardwood (size in mm: 15x80x220) with a slot for the flat iron rod on the underside. screw holes and bit hole matching the ones on the plastic platform.
Image

on the upperside it has a channel for the bolt that emerges from below. and a simple wing nut and two "rings" (probably a better word for it)
Image

here you can see all the pieces. I made threaded holes to the rod, then located the bolts, one with the flat neck for the axis, the other with full "thread" to use with the wing nut. (they are both 1/4 bolts) and gave a touch of welding to secure them.
Image

so here its set on the Bosch gkf-600 (i think the U.S version is called Colt)
the blank was a little narrow but the screws hold just fine.
Image

so its just a matter of positioning the bit into place and then tighten the wing nut, it hold the rod very firmly and steady.
Image

hereĀ“s the rosete before unglueing it from the MDF. there are some bit marks on a little section, but that was the jig failure just my mistake when positioning the bit. and thats the part that goes below the fretboard. so no worries there.

and the rossete

so all in all its very simple and handy.
hope its useful for somebody.
cheers!
Bruno

Thats a very nice jig, Bruno! I've got some UHWM that would be perfect for this. Thanks for sharing with us. [:Y:] [clap] [:Y:]

Ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene. It is easily cut and shaped with most wood working tools, and is great for making jigs.

If you have a store that sells the plastic cutting boards, then you've probably seen it and didn't realize it. =)

Just a quick question regarding those cutting boards... I've been thinking about using old ones for jigs, etc. Has anyone run one through a planer? I have wanted to, but am not sure how it would be on the blades.

I think I might have about 15 years ago with my old Delta bench top planer. It would be a little messy, and the UHMW generates a lot of static electricity, so the shavings would stick to everything. Treat it like a piece of wood - make sure the piece is long enough, take equal amounts from both sides, and disconnect your dust collector so that you don't foul ducts or hoses.
