Not too clever, but if somebody came and stole my fly cut steel I beams, I would go back to the steel yard get two more for the machine shop to true up. Good for so many different jobs! Image

That is a great idea. How much did you have to pay for the machining?

Thanks.
Checked my records and the machine shop charged me 112.00 to cut a 4' piece into two, fly cut both sides, square up ends, they painted it also. That being said the owner of the shop did the work and I got the vibe he thought it was a cool idea and cut me a break. He worked it in with another bigger job. I am not sure if that is expensive in the lower 48, things up here are usually more expensive.

Nice, I usually clamp to my machine top.

What clamps are those?

Its counter top scrap cut to shape on the machine and threaded for some screws. We have a counter top business in town that has a pretty sweet scrap bin.

Thanks, I like it! IMO a solid glue joint there is critical to sustain and attack.

I was going to say that seems a little high, but still worth it.

For the price of steel it's really nice to use in fixture and homemade machinery. I did a project for my sister that required about 3/16 inch diameter aluminum rod and I got about 36 feet of it for about $20.00 if I remember correctly. I'm thinking about making my own BBQ grill out of stainless.

I had some cold roll plate blanchard ground which gives a really flat surface and it was pretty cheap too. I think it depends on the shop and their work load.

Very cool idea!!
