I made a go bar deck tonight. It was easy and cost approximately $70. It might be cheaper for you since I bought the parts at locally owned indie stores that are more expensive than the big box chain stores. Parts: 1" furniture grade birch ply 4 - 36" 3/8" threaded rods 4 - 3 prong 3/8" nuts 12 - washers 8 - locking washers 4 - 3/8" nuts 8 - 3/8" butterfly nuts plastic tubing to fit over the threaded rods (scratch protection I cut two 1" furniture grade birch ply 24" x 24" squares I drilled 3/8" holes 1.25" from each corner I pounded the 3 prong nuts into the bottom of the bottom plywood sheet Then I assembled it. In order from the bottom up: 3 prong nut, through the bottom ply, washer, locking washer, nut. Plastic tubing over the threaded rod (20" approximately) Butterfly nut (upside down, washer, Top ply, washer, locking washer, butterfly nut. By using the butterfly nuts above and below the top deck I'll be able to adjust the height for working on a top/back, or raising it to close a guitar body. And here it is clamping a hollowform to a sheet of ply for protection against warping. I have 36 fiberglass rods in use here and with just a single layer of 1" ply on top there is no flex of the top. I got the fiberglass rods from a kite building supply website. Ended up costing less about a dollar a piece. Hope this is helpful. |

Thanks for posting. Where did you get your hollow forms? Homemade or purchased? |
