I am preparing to brace the back and see that the Cumpiano method specifies 4 braces.
Bogdanovitch recommends 3.
The '37 Hauser plan I have references 3.
My Ramirez has 3 as well....
I think the consensus is to go with 3 braces on the back...

3 back braces in a regular sized classical is as universal as using 6 strings :) Other than that I don't think it could hurt the sound, maybe change it a hair. It would make sense to try it if you already have an established build process (say 5 or 10 similar guitars) and you want to say increase projection by stiffening the back. Or obtain a lower weight by say adding a 15 grams brace and sanding 40 grams off the entire back...
